Hunting Season 2009

Well the hunt has come and almost gone.

Dad, Dillan, and Brian all went out all day opening day ( Saturday ) and dad shot his deer that evening. It was a good sized 4x4 with a 24 inch spread.

Then, Dad Brian and I went out Sunday and just saw tons of doe but none that would grow antlers no matter how hard we stared at them.

Then, early Tuesday morning Brian had to drag my butt out of bed to go. But, I am so glad we did. It was cold and windy in the morning and we thought it would die down but it didn't it just got colder and windier and then started to rain. So, we decided to just go check out the top of the next ridge before heading home and we ran into a nice guy from Mesquite. We then spotted a few doe and saw a small spike with the group. I got all set up for the 250 yard down hill shot aimed right were I have been taught, slowly started pulling the trigger and when I was ready I shot. We all thought I had hit him so we went over and tried to find the trail of blood or anything that would lead us to him but we found nothing so we figured I missed and they ran to the other side. Brian and I headed out again and just went for a small drive around the hill sides just glassing. It got to be so cold and wet we started to head back to the truck to go home for a nap and lunch. As we were heading out we were still glassing and watching for deer. We got to be about half way back and spotted 3 deer. After getting all excited and prepared we determined they were just doe. Then, as we were walking back to the four-wheeler about 10 more deer came out from behind some trees. The last one to come out was a spike. The same one I had shot at earlier, I had to get him now he ran away from me the first time but this time he was mine. I sat down got all ready this time it was only about 150 yards up hill. I wasn't as nervous this time though I still had a bit of Buck Fever. I shot and hit him right in the perfect spot!!!! Right through the heart didn't ruin any meat at all.

Here he is my little spike but my very first deer ever!!!!

We both worked together as we gutted him on the hill and then when we got home dad and I skinned the little buck.

This year made me so much more excited for the hunting season. I sure hope I draw out again next year!!!!!
